Rome was chosen for its fertile soil and great location, its located on the Italian peninsula in the center of the Mediterranean sea. Around 600 B.C. Etruscan King builds Rome's first temples and public centers. The Romans overthrow Etruscan King and find a Republic, government system in which citizens elect leaders. In 450 B.C., officials carve Roman laws on the twelve tables. The twelve tables become basis for Roman laws. The twelve tables are hung in the forum. The forum was the main market place and business center. Romans can do their banking, trading, shopping and marketing all at the forum. Also a place for public speaking.
There is a large gap between rich and poor as the republic begins to collapse. This causes a lot of conflict, even the military becomes less disciplined. Lucky for the Romans Julius Caesar takes charge and elected counsel in 59 B.C. He forms a triumvirate group of three leaders but the triumvirate fails and Caesar is named dictator for life in 44. B.C.
Sad enough, the republic does fail and that starts the Empire. Another triumvirate forms and again does not work out. 1 of the 3 accepts title of Augustus. Augustus is the one to move the Rome from a republic to an empire. During time as an Empire, Rome enjoys 200 years called Pax Romana. Rome starts to trade goods with China and India, Roman roads links Empire to Persia and Russia. In the Empire, entertainment is quite cruel. The colosseum is created to keep people under control. Slaves or people in jail are put in the colosseum to fight ti death for the joy of people. Romans are smart and build amazing structures. The arch lets them build more divine buildings. Concrete is created with volcanic ash and limestone. Aqueducts are built to help bring water to the cities instead of having to bring it in buckets or live near the water.
